Aim of the course
The legislative drafting course is intended to equip course participants with practical skills, interpretation of statutes, and knowledge required for drafting legislation and rendering quality legal advice. The course emphasis is on the individual development of practical skills. It is centred on practical exercises and gives the participants the opportunity to apply the techniques and know-how of legislative preparation, which they acquire in class. The programme runs for a period of five (5) months.
Training Methodology
The training is conducted by means of lectures, practical drafting exercises and assignments which count toward the student’s final mark.
Target Group
The course is intended for practising lawyers within the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary; Law Drafters; and lawyers interested in drafting techniques and methods, drafting and interpretation of contracts, and interpretation of legislation.
Entry Requirements
To qualify for admission, one must meet the following entry requirements:
- Have Law degree from any recognised university; and
- Be admitted to practice law in their respective countries for a minimum period of one year

Attendance
Attendance at both lectures and practicals are compulsory for all students. It is the basis upon which performance is assessed and is the key to the successful completion of the programme.
